Whatever your thoughts about Valentines Day, it is, for better or worse, here to stay.  With the 2016 edition still fresh in the mind, we thought we’d take a peak at some of the more successful video marketing campaigns over the past few years.
The average consumer spend on Valentines is increasing each year and marketers are helping drive this with some clever and fun campaigns. You don’t have to be a chocolate maker, jewellery designer or card company to get in on it.
Viral videos can be hard to create and often rely on a clever creative idea that resonates with a target audience who then feel compelled to share it with their friends on social media. This kind of thing can’t be faked or bought, it’s a natural thing which is why it can be hard to get right. We believe these videos below have all nailed it.

Converse Couples

A sweet and interactive short film featuring multiple couples talking about how they met. There are numerous shots of the product but don’t feel out of place at any time. Click the image below to start watching the video. The interactive version which is hosted on the lifestyle website NOWNESS has a very neat little slider in the video player so you can wipe across the screen to see who is talking fully and change the perspective.

Tesco – Basket Dating

In this ad for Tesco, a psychotherapist analyses the products that several people have in their baskets during a shopping trip and matches them up based on their purchases. It’s a bit cheesy and somewhat unbelievable (everyone gets matched up with someone else of exactly the same demographic somehow) but it’s a fun video and works well with the Tesco Valentines campaign.

West Jet – Valentines Day Proposals

West Jet are no stranger to uber-successful viral video campaigns. Their last two Christmas campaigns have both been extremely successful with one of the videos racking up nearly 45 million views! This campaign from last year features two couples that are on a holiday to Barbados (courtesy of West Jet of course) with a interesting twist on the usual proposal videos that you might find on the internet.

Ford – Speed Dating

Speed dating is a difficult game and this prank video from Ford doesn’t make it any easier. This videos features a female professional stunt driver who tricks unsuspecting speed daters into thinking she’s not such a great driver before letting rip in her shiny red Mustang, provoking some pretty hilarious reactions in the process.

Funny How Flowers Do That – Cupid Drone

Through a clever use of modern tech this Cupid-from-the-future flies around dropping roses on top of unsuspecting couples. That’s definitely one way of advertising your flower company.
As you can see there are various ways companies have been using Valentines and its surrounding themes as a spring board to create fun viral videos that boost brand awareness.
